World Update XVI: Caribbean brings unprecedented realism to the exotic, tropical Caribbean region for Microsoft Flight Simulator pilots.

The Caribbean, located just east of Central America between the North and South American continental land masses, is globally recognized as one of the most exotic and beautiful regions on the planet. It is a realm of emerald waters, white sand beaches, and chains of seemingly endless islands. The Microsoft Flight Simulator team is pleased to add World Update XVI: Caribbean, to its long and growing list of global enhancements so that Flight Simulator aviators can experience this storied part of the globe like never before.

World Update XVI covers a broad swath of Caribbean locales, including: Antigua, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, and the United States Virgin Islands. Microsoft partnered with Bing Maps, Maxar, and a host of Caribbean governmental organizations to bring this magnificent update to fruition. The team ingested a massive trove of geospatial data for World Update XVI, including aerial photographs, satellite data, LIDAR (light detection and ranging) data, DEM (digital elevation model) data, and DTM (digital terrain model) data.

World Update XVI: Caribbean delivers over 100 POIs (points of interest), including: The Bahama’s Nassau Harbor Lighthouse, Jamaica’s Colbeck Castle, Puerto Rico’s Faro De Pampatar, and Trinidad & Tobago’s Red House.

Microsoft Partner Gaya Simulations hand crafted seven airports, including: Dominican Republic’s Gregorio Luperón International Airport (Puerto Plata Airport) (MDPP), Haiti’s Antoine-Simon Airport (MTCA), Jamaica’s Sangster International Airport (MKJS), Trinidad & Tobago’s A.N.R. Robinson International Airport (formerly Crown Point International Airport) (TTCP), The Bahamas’s North Eleuthera Airport (MYEH), and Guadeloupe’s Les Saintes Airport (TFFS).

World Update XVI: Caribbean also includes activities that wonderfully complement the update itself. These include three discovery flights: Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Also included are three Landing Challenges: The Dominican Republic’s Gregorio Luperón International Airport (MDPP), a Famous Landing Challenge; North Eleuthera Airport (MYEH) of The Bahamas, an Epic Landing Challenge; and Haiti’s Antoine-Simon Airport (MTCA), an Epic Landing Challenge. Perfect Flight and Microsoft also created Bush Trips that showcase the region’s beauty.
