Australia – All Landmarks

Part 2 – Queensland

In the second part of World Update XXI, Australia, featuring many newly added POIs, AOIs, and airports, the journey takes you through Queensland. In this mission, you’ll encounter all the POIs and AOIs created so far for Microsoft Flight Simulator, along with Queensland’s most impressive landscapes. The journey from Cooktown to the Gold Coast feels like a single, grand geographical arc that unfolds in several clearly distinguishable layers. It begins in the tropical north, where rainforest, mangroves, and indigenous coastal cultures shape the landscape, and then gradually leads through increasingly open, drier, and more densely populated areas. From the air, it feels as though you are traversing an entire continent in fast-forward: from archaic coastal formations and the Great Barrier Reef, through historic port cities and agricultural heartlands in the interior, to the urban centers of the southeast on the Gold Coast. Particularly impressive is the way the ecological zones change—from the humid tropical forest through the vast river systems of the Mary River to the subtropical hills of the Sunshine Coast. At the same time, the route reveals a deep historical structure in which Indigenous traditions, colonial port cities, gold rush settlements, and modern metropolises like Brisbane coexist seamlessly. Each region tells its own story, and from the air it becomes clear how closely landscape, economy, and culture are interwoven. The southern section, from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, ultimately forms a modern, urban-maritime contrast: wide highways, river deltas, artificial islands, skyscraper facades, and the open expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The landing at YBCG—right on the border of two states—marks a precise, almost symbolic conclusion to a journey that represents one of Australia’s most diverse routes, both geographically and culturally.
