Australia – All Sights
Part 5 – South Australia
In the fifth part of the World Update XXI, Australia—featuring many newly added POIs, AOIs, and airports—we travel through South Australia. In these multi-part missions, you’ll encounter all the POIs, AOIs, and airports created so far for the MS Flight Simulator, along with the most impressive landscapes. This part of the journey through Australia feels like a slow, powerful breath of the continent. It begins in the dark volcanic landscapes of Mount Gambier, where crater lakes and basalt cliffs create an almost mysterious depth. From there, the Limestone Coast opens up with its long beaches, light-colored dunes, and tranquil coastlines—a section that conveys a soft, maritime lightness in the simulator. Then comes the transition to the interior, and the atmosphere changes noticeably. The landscape becomes more expansive, orderly, and brighter. The Murraylands unfold as a mosaic of fields, river branches, and irrigated areas, crisscrossed by the meandering Murray River, which looks like a green ribbon from the air. This region exudes a calm, agricultural clarity that appears particularly harmonious in the aerial view. With the south coast near Goolwa and the islands off Victor Harbor, the sea returns—this time rougher, more open, with cliffs, surf, and a view of Kangaroo Island. Adelaide offers a brief urban highlight before the route transitions back into open spaces: wine country, river valleys, and finally the vast plains toward Broken Hill. The flight into the Flinders Ranges is one of the atmospheric highlights. The mountains appear folded, ancient, full of geological tension. Wilpena Pound, Parachilna, and Leigh Creek create an archaic atmosphere that feels particularly intense in the simulator. After that, the landscape finally opens up: deserts, salt lakes, dry valleys. The flyover of Lake Eyre is a moment of complete stillness—a vast, boundless space that seems almost unreal. Coober Pedy adds a surreal touch before the route leads back to more structured landscapes via Lake Hart and Port Augusta. The final stretch over Iron Knob, Kimba, and Minnipa is vast, calm, and clear—a gentle glide across the western Eyre Peninsula. Ceduna holds a quiet surprise in store as the highlight before the route ends at the tranquil, bright coastal arc of Murat Bay. This route thrives on both individual highlights and its transitions. It reveals how a continent, layer by layer, unveils its shapes, colors, and atmospheres—and that is precisely what makes it so appealing to fly.
