BR-116 - the longest road in Brazil

The BR-116 is one of the most important highways in Brazil, perhaps the most important. At 4,885 kilometers (2.638 NM), it is the longest paved highway in Brazil. It connects Fortaleza, Ceará, one of the largest metropolitan areas in north-eastern Brazil, and the southern city of Jaguarão, Rio Grande do Sul, on the border with Uruguay, passing through ten federal states.

Brazil is home to some superlatives, such as the longest river in the world - the Amazon - two of the largest cities in the world - Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro - and it is the largest state on the South American continent. Brazil is associated with beautiful beaches, Rio de Janeiro's Sugar Loaf Mountain, carnival and samba rhythms. However, Brazil has much more to offer. Nature and culture are very diverse from the north to the south of the country. There is also a lot to learn about the country's history and its colonial past. There is hardly a better opportunity to get to know the different cultures and landscapes of Brazil than a trip through the 10 eastern states along the BR-116.
