Shinkansen Express

There seem to be no obstacles for the Shinkansen; mountains or hills - it disappears underneath and only reappears a few kilometres further on. Suddenly there is a small town or village in the way - the track disappears underneath. For long stretches, the track is sometimes not visible.

It was originally built to connect distant Japanese regions with Tokyo to promote economic growth and development. Starting with the Tokaido Shinkansen line (515 km; 320 miles), the network has been expanded to more than 2,800 km (1,750 miles) with maximum speeds of 240-320 km/h (150-200 mph). The network currently connects most major cities on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu, as well as Hakodate on the northern island of Hokkaido.

To enable high-speed operation, the Shinkansen uses a number of advanced technologies compared to conventional railways, allowing not only high speeds but also a high level of safety and comfort. The success of the Shinkansen has influenced other railways around the world, demonstrating the importance and benefits of high-speed travel.

This journey on the Beechcraft King Air 350 allows you to discover Japan in a very special way, following the high-speed lines of the Shinkansen network from the south of the island of Kyushu through Honshu to the northernmost main island of Hokkaido. Pilots who have the Aerosoft Twin Otter in their hangar can also enjoy the journey along the rails of the Shinkanzen with the "Twotter".

Happy Landings in the Land of the Rising Sun!
