VFR UK Part 3: Valleys and Quarries in Wales

The third part of the VFR UK series takes you to Wales for a flight over its valleys and quarries.

The area in Wales between Swansea and the Isle of Anglesey and around Mount Snowdon is rich in history, nature and culture. You start in the second largest city in Wales: Swansea. Swansea is an important center for trade, industry and education. The city has a long maritime tradition and was once the world's largest export port for coal.

The flight takes you over Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. The national park around the mountain is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity. It is said that the national symbol of Wales, a red dragon, can still sometimes be seen here.

You'll also come to the Slate Landscape of North West Wales, another UNESCO World Heritage Site that reflects Wales' industrial past. Here you'll see the old slate mines and quarries that once supplied the world with slate.

At the end of the journey you come to the island of Anglesey, which is connected to the mainland by two bridges. Anglesey is known for its beautiful coastline, its prehistoric monuments and its Welsh language culture. It is also home to the town with the longest name in Europe: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllllantysiliogogogoch.

Six legs with about 450 nautical miles await you. You should follow the text in the navlog to navigate, following roads, rivers and valleys and crossing mountains and lakes to find your way.

Available languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch. Some languages are machine translated. If something is wrong, please contact us so we can adjust it.

This flight has been designed and tested with World Update 3 for the UK, which is available free of charge and requires to be installed. It can be found under Activities -> Custom Content.
