VFR UK Part 4: Castles and Causeways in Ireland

Ireland, often referred to as the "Emerald Isle", is known for its lush landscapes and year-round green grass. This characteristic green is due to the mild climate, which is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Stream, allowing the grass to grow twelve months of the year. Winters are mild, summers can be described in the same positive light, with spring and fall in between. Ireland is the third largest island in Europe.

Ireland is also known for its rich history and culture, including the mythical significance of the color green, which in Irish mythology was considered the color of the Otherworld and was taboo for humans. Today, however, green is also the national color of Ireland.

Celtic culture is also deeply rooted in the history and identity of Inisel. The Celts, an Indo-European people, settled in Ireland around 500 BC, bringing with them their own language, art, religion and way of life. Places of worship and sacred sites are scattered across the landscape and were often used for rituals and sacrifices. Well-known Celtic festivals such as Beltane and Samhain (Halloween) have survived in various forms to this day and are part of modern Irish culture.

A popular myth is the idea of treasure at the end of the rainbow. It is said that a pot of gold is hidden at the end of a rainbow, guarded by a goblin, an Irish leprechaun. The small, dwarf-like creatures, depicted in green clothing and with red hair, are said to be the shoemakers of the fairies and are known to hoard gold coins.

They are solitary creatures known to use many tricks to protect their gold from humans. It is said that whoever catches a leprechaun and does not let it out of their sight can learn the secret of the place where the treasure is hidden. However, it is extremely difficult to catch a leprechaun as they can disappear quickly.

Can you find the gold treasures hidden on the Irish island in this Journey?
