Advanced Challenges โ Austral Landings charts a course through the Southern Hemisphere's most extraordinary aviation landscape โ 24 landing challenges spanning the full breadth of Australia and New Zealand, two of the most geographically and operationally diverse nations in the world of aviation.
From the knife-edge backcountry airstrips of Fiordland to the ancient red desert of the Australian outback, from the storm-lashed Cook Strait to the mining frontiers of Western Australia's Pilbara region, Austral Landings offers a flying experience unlike anything in the Advanced Challenges catalogue. The landscape here is geological time made visible โ and every approach in this pack puts that landscape front and centre.

โ Challenges Highlights
Aviation in Australasia is shaped by two forces that rarely appear together in other parts of the world: vast emptiness and violent terrain compression. In Australia, distances are continental and the terrain is ancient and eroded โ endless red plains, sparse mulga woodland, and the occasional sacred monolith rising from the desert floor. Navigation demands respect for sheer distance, fuel management, and the disorientation that comes from flying for hours over a landscape that barely changes. In New Zealand, the opposite is true: within a few dozen miles, the terrain shifts from glaciated alpine peaks to sea-level fiords, from geothermal moonscapes to lush coastal farmland. The South Island's Southern Alps generate some of the most intense mountain wave turbulence in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Cook Strait between the islands is a notorious wind funnel that has tested every aircraft type that has ever flown it.
Together, these two countries offer a 24-mission journey through the full spectrum of what southern hemisphere aviation demands of a pilot โ precision, patience, spatial awareness, and an honest respect for weather.
