■ Challenges Highlights

■ Mountain & High-Elevation Extremes KASE – Aspen–Pitkin Co / Sardy Field ⭐ — One of the most notorious airports in all of aviation. Sitting at 2,438m (7,820 ft) above sea level in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Aspen's single runway is flanked by towering mountain ridges.

KTEX – Telluride Regional Airport ⭐ — The highest commercial airport in North America at 2,767m (9,078 ft). Perched on a mesa above the San Juan Mountains, Telluride offers virtually no flat terrain beyond the runway thresholds.

KSEZ – Sedona Airport — Built atop a mesa in the Arizona Red Rock Country at 1,311m (4,827 ft), Sedona has short runways that end abruptly at mesa edges with dramatic drop-offs. T

■ Remote Wilderness & Bush Strips C53 – Lower Loon Creek — One of the most remote airstrips in the contiguous United States, carved into the floor of a steep Idaho wilderness canyon along the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

KEB – Nanwalek — A remote Alaskan village airport on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, accessible only by small aircraft or boat. The short gravel runway sits just above sea level, squeezed between tidal flats and dense boreal forest, with unpredictable Cook Inlet

■ Coastal & Island Approaches KAVX – Catalina Airport — Known as "The Airport in the Sky," Catalina sits on a ridge on Santa Catalina Island, California, at 1,602 ft elevation. The runway ends at cliff edges on both sides, with the Pacific Ocean hundreds of feet below.

KBID – Block Island State Airport — A small state airport on Block Island, 21km off the Rhode Island coast in the Atlantic Ocean.

■ Historic & Symbolic Airfields KFFA – First Flight Airport — Located at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, adjacent to the exact site where the Wright Brothers made the first powered aircraft flight on December 17, 1903.

KNKX – Miramar MCAS — Home of the real-life "Top Gun" Naval Fighter Weapons School, immortalized in the 1986 film. This United States Marine Corps air station in San Diego offers an immersive military approach experience with precise pattern discipline required.
