■ Challenges Highlights

PTPI – Pingelap Airport (Cessna 152) — Pingelap is one of the most isolated atolls in the Federated States of Micronesia

RJX8 – Suwanosejima Airport — The airstrip is short, surrounded by volcanic terrain, and subject to ash advisories. Approach paths must account for the rising terrain of the volcano on the island's northern end.

RORS – Shimojishima Airport (Boeing 747-8i) — This is the standout challenge of the entire pack. The runway is long enough to accommodate the 747-8i but the surrounding scenery — crystalline Okinawan waters, coral reefs, and flat tropical terrain — provides almost no visual depth cues for a heavy jet approach.

PWAK – Wake Island Airfield (Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet) — This is the site where, in December 1941, a fierce but futile American resistance against Japanese forces took place. The F/A-18E Super Hornet is the only aircraft suited to this environment. The runway at Wake is long, but the psychological challenge of flying over the desolate expanse of the Pacific creates an experience of unique intensity.
