Battle of the Bulge - Historical Flight Tour
Designed as a true guided historical tour, this package offers a 75‑minute mission to be flown at low altitude (around 2,500 feet and 90 knots) along a preset route, with an optional autopilot-assisted navigation track so you can focus on the scenery and the story. You depart from Luxembourg Airport (ELLX) and follow the German offensive and Allied counterattack from the first breakthroughs in December 1944 to the collapse of the “bulge” in January 1945. ■ Historical Mission Overview Along the way you pass key waypoints such as Grevenmacher, Wiltz, Bastogne, Noville, Houffalize, St. Vith, Malmedy, Stavelot, Trois-Ponts, Stoumont and La Gleize, each accompanied by detailed narration explaining what happened on the ground beneath your wings during those bitter winter days. The historical commentary covers German Seventh, Fifth Panzer and Sixth Panzer Armies, U.S. units like the 4th and 28th Infantry Divisions, 101st Airborne, 106th Infantry Division, 7th Armored Division and more, highlighting decisive actions such as the siege of Bastogne, the stand on Elsenborn Ridge, and Patton’s rapid drive north. The tour also brings to life dramatic episodes of heroism and tragedy: the outnumbered American stand at Lanzerath Ridge, the destruction of the 106th Division on the Schnee Eifel, the atrocities committed by Kampfgruppe Peiper between Malmedy and Ligneuville, and the gradual breakdown of the German offensive due to fuel shortages, logistical chaos and overwhelming Allied air power. The flight ends near La Sauvenière, as the narration summarizes the human and material cost of the campaign and its decisive role in sealing the fate of the Third Reich in the West. Immersive Historical Narration Created for flight sim enthusiasts and history buffs alike, History by Air – Battle of the Bulge turns Microsoft Flight Simulator into an interactive classroom in the sky, letting you pause, circle points of interest and truly understand how terrain, weather and logistics shaped one of the largest and hardest-fought battles in U.S. Army history.
