4.5/5 (99)

The Drifter 582 ultralight is a two seat, wire braced, tail dragger aircraft. The Austflight Drifter is an extensively modified version of the original Maxair Drifter and since the early 1980's approximately 500 have been built. The forward pilot seating position provides excellent visibility.

Two models are included in this package, a wheeled version and a floats version. 13 liveries are available (7 for the floats version) with 5 having fixed registration numbers, the others being user configurable. A pop-up tablet is included in the aircraft (switch the 12V aux power button to show the table) which allows the user to access various display settings (show/hide pilot or passenger for example) as well as providing an autopilot for hands free flying (not a normal feature in real world aircraft). The Drifter is very much a VFR aircraft so intstrumentation is spartan however an ICOM IC-A22 radio is included which can be used for VOR navigation and the default GPS is also available and can be tilted for the ideal viewing angle or hidden if desired.

Full checklists are included and a Pilot's Handbook PDF is available in the package's Documentation folder.

Version 1.2 includes: New pilot and passenger models New Tablet Key commands to toggle Tablet and GPS Improved engine priming and starting Increased fuel capacities and more realistic fuel consumption rates Various changes to engine performance and flight characteristics Airframe icing effect 4 selectable levels of rolling resistance 3 options for windscreen reflections

The Drifter A582 is a two-seat, open-cockpit, single-engine ultralight produced by Austflight of Australia under license from American manufacturer Lockwood Aircraft. The design was introduced in the 1980s, and a number of them continue to soar through the skies.

The Drifter A582 features tandem seating, a windshield at its nose, and a traditional empennage. It has a standard undercarriage and a high main wing with a span of 36 feet. The structure of the aircraft is built of aluminum tubing and is designed around a tubular keel. The wing, stabilizers, and control surfaces are constructed of aluminum tubing covered in Dacron sailcloth.

The Drifter is powered by a 2-cylinder, 64-horsepower Rotax 582 engine that turns a pusher-configured propeller. The ultralight has a range of 265 miles, cruises at 86 miles per hour, and tops out at 125 mph. The Drifter can take off after a run of 200 feet and requires 300 feet of ground roll to come to a stop after touching down.

Ultralights provide aviators with an incredibly pure form of flight, and the Austflight Drifter A582 is a true standout in this category. Refined through years of pilot feedback and testing, this light-yet-tough airframe is ideal for easy coasting beneath the clouds or more aggressive maneuvering through the sky, all day long.
