The Savage Shock Ultra is a single-engine, 2-seat STOL (short take-off and landing) light sport aircraft by Czech-based Zlin Aviation. Zlin set out to create a “hyper STOL” for adventure and general backcountry flying, and the Savage Shock Ultra delivers. The balance of aerodynamic design and power allows pilots to take the aircraft into and out of locations otherwise reserved for helicopters.
The functional centerpiece of the Savage Shock Ultra is its carefully crafted, strut-braced main wing. Optimized for short take-off and landing, it has a rectangular planform, incorporates double slotted fowler flaps, and has leading-edge slats. The aircraft is optimized for weight, featuring tube-and-fabric construction. It has a traditional empennage and a fixed standard undercarriage reinforced for backcountry operation. It boasts tandem seating, a high-visibility canopy, and a utilitarian cockpit.
The Savage Shock Ultra measures 22 feet, 5 inches in length, stands 7 feet, 5 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 29 feet, 6 inches. It is powered by a Rotax 912 ULS 4-cylinder piston engine that delivers up to 100 horsepower.
The aircraft has a service ceiling of 13,123 feet above sea level, climbs at 1,000 feet per minute, stalls at 31 miles per hour, and cruises at 106 mph.
