Transall C160

AzurPoly

CARGOMILITARYPARACHUTETURBOPROPAZURPOLY

4.6/5 (924)

After its retirement from the French military service in 2022 and more than 1.000.000 flight hours combined, it is time for the Transall to live a second life in Flight Simulator 2020! It accomplished thousands of missions, flew above hundreds of countries and has been involved in numerous humanitarian missions.

We just wanted to salute this Franco-German aviation emblem.

The development has been conducted along with real pilots and true Transall connoisseurs. A big thanks to the "Musée Européen de l'Aviation de Chasse" in Montélimar, France, that provided access to a retired French C-160R. By inspecting it in every details, we have been able to reproduce an accurate version of the aircraft.

We have put a lot of effort to improve even more our quality standards compared to our previous products. The great complexity of the aircraft and its military-designed systems forced us to adapt our development processes accordingly. Hence, our Transall includes a big amount of bespoke systems and does not re-use existing generic avionics from the simulator.

Please have a look at the manual on our website to see all implemented features and current aircraft limitations.

The C-160R is a twin-turboprop, high-wing military transport aircraft developed and produced by Franco-German aerospace company Transall. It took its first flight on February 25, 1963 and was introduced in 1967. 214 were built, and the platform has served the militaries of a number of countries, including France, Germany, Turkey, and South Africa. The C-160R has performed a number of roles in addition to aerial logistical support, including C3 (command, control, and communications), ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) data gathering, and aerial refueling.

The C-160R measures 106 feet, 4 inches in length, stands 38 feet, 3 inches tall, and has a high aspect ratio main wing with a span of 131 feet, 3 inches. It is powered by two wing-mounted Rolls-Royce RTy.20 Tyne Mk 22 turboprop engines that each produce up to 6,100 horsepower and turn 4-blade constant-speed propellers. The aircraft has a range of 1,200 miles, a service ceiling of 27,000 feet above sea level, and a climb rate of 1,300 feet per minute. It stalls at 110 miles per hour and has a maximum speed of 319 mph.

The C-160R by Transall looks rugged and its performance definitely lives up to its appearance. Pilots can lift off from and land at a wide variety of airstrips, including unimproved dirt runways deep in the wilds in far-flung corners of the globe.
