The 8KCAB-180 Super Decathlon is a single-engine, 2-seat, general purpose light airplane manufactured by American Champion. The -180 is an enhanced performance version of the original 8KCAB airframe, which was developed with an emphasis on aerobatic flight training. The 8KCAB design was based on American Champion’s 7-series Citabria line, the key difference being that the 8KCAB is better capable of handling inverted maneuvers.

The 8KCAB-180 is renowned as an aerobatic trainer as well as for its general aviation prowess. Many pilots consider the Super Decathlon to be one of the best aerobatic trainers ever created due to its forgiving nature and ability to handle positive-g maneuvers like outside loops.

The aircraft features a high-mounted, strut-braced main wing, a standard empennage, and a fixed traditional undercarriage with aerodynamic spats over the main wheels. It has tandem seating, center stick controls, and boasts exceptional cockpit visibility. The fuselage and empennage are framed using welded steel tubing and the main wing uses aluminum ribs and spars.

The Super Decathlon measures 22 feet, 11 inches in length, stands 7 feet, 8 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 32 feet. It is powered by a 4-cylinder Lycoming AEIO-360-H1B piston engine that generates up to 180 horsepower and turns a constant-speed, composite, 2-blade propeller.
