BIZJETBUSINESS JETTURBOJET

0/5 (0)

Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis (personal jet) has arrived!

The Jetstar was the very first business jet and started life as a tender for a United States Air Force requirement. The tender was eventually dropped due to budget, however the Jetstar was repurposed for the business sector as the very first, purpose built business jet.

Originally designed to use two Bristol Siddeley Orpheus engines, due to supply issues these were replaced with a pair of twin Pratt & Whitney JT12s for a total of four engines, each pushing 3300lbs thrust. This configuration allowed the Jetstar to cruise upwards to 40,000' at a speed of 0.8 Mach.

We have chosen to bring to life this first version of the JetStar as it was the airframe that blazed a trial for a whole sector of aviation, the Business Jet.

Features:

The JetStar is an American 4-engine, multi-role jet. Crewed by two and able to carry up to ten passengers, it was the world’s first jet-powered aircraft developed to serve the business and VIP market. The JetStar took its maiden flight on September 4, 1957 and it entered service in 1961. Over 202 were manufactured during a production run from 1961 to 1980.

The JetStar was initially developed to fulfill a U.S. military need for a small, fast jet aircraft that could perform a variety of missions including VIP transport, training, logistics, and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) data collections. The initial design comprised four turbojet engines, two mounted in a pod on each side of the rear fuselage. Due to noise and efficiency issues, engineers eventually used turbofan engines.

The aircraft proved a success, being used by militaries (designated the C-140 by the U.S. military), businesses, and celebrities. It features a swept main wing, a cruciform empennage, and distinctive fuel tanks under each side of the main wing. The JetStar measures 60 feet, 5 inches in length, stands 20 feet, 5 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 54 feet, 5 inches. It is powered by four geared turbofan engines that each deliver up to 3,700 pounds of thrust.

The JetStar has a range of 3,000 miles, a service ceiling of 43,000 feet above sea level, and a climb rate of 4,150 feet per minute. It cruises at 504 miles per hour and has a top speed of 547 mph.
