The BN-2 Islander is a 1960s British light utility aircraft, main-line airliner and cargo aircraft.

The Islander is one of the best-selling commercial aircraft types produced in Europe and sold world-wide. Although designed in the 1960s, over 750 are still in service with commercial operators around the world. The aircraft is also used by the Army and Police forces in the United Kingdom and is a popular light transport with over 30 military aviation operators around the world.

Britten-Norman was started in 1953 to convert and operate agricultural aircraft and it also produced hovercraft. Design of the Islander started in 1963 and the first prototype BN-2 first flew on 13 June 1965, with the second prototype on 20 August 1966. Both of these aircraft had engines that were less powerful than the production versions. The Islander is a high-wing cantilever monoplane with a rectangular fuselage and two-wing mounted engines, a conventional tail unit and a fixed, tricycle landing gear. The fuselage will usually accommodate one pilot and up to nine passengers. The first production Islander’s maiden flight was on 24 April 1967 and the aircraft was certified in August 1967.

  • 5 different aircraft variants: the base BN2A standard nose, the pointy nose and cargo variants, a long nosed variant and 2 militarised versions including a maritime defender.
  • Highly accurate flight dynamics test flown by real world Islander pilots "She is feeling like an old friend!" says one.
  • Utilising many of MSFS special paint features, full PBR including Ambient Occlusion and normal mapping.
  • Extremely high idelity exterior and interior models with 100% 3d modelled gauges.
  • Over 400 thousand polygons used for external model and virtual cockpit.

The BN-2 Islander is a twin-engine, high-wing utility aircraft manufactured by British aerospace company Britten-Norman. The Islander, which took its first flight on June 13, 1965, has seen a wide variety of uses by operators throughout the world, including regional airline, cargo, military, and law enforcement. The BN-2 has been continuously in production since 1965 and more than 1,280 aircraft have been delivered, making it one of the most successful British commercial aircraft in history.

The BN-2 has a fuselage with a square cross-section, fixed tricycle landing gear, and a conventional empennage. Its main wing has a span of 49 feet and supports the engines and its main landing gear legs. It’s powered by two Lycoming O-540-E4C5 6-cylinder piston engines that each produce 260 horsepower and turn 2-blade Hartzell constant-speed propellers.

The Islander has a top speed of 170 miles per hour, a never-exceed speed of 211 mph, and it cruises at 150. It climbs at 860 feet per minute, has a ceiling of 11,300 feet above sea level, and a range of 870 miles.

The Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander is a workhorse general utility aircraft with boxy looks to match. The aircraft wasn’t just built to perform a wide variety of missions, it was also built to operate out of all types of airfields, from concrete runways on the most modern airports to rutted dirt strips deep in the backcountry.
