Captain Sim

777KC777TANKERCARGOTRANSPORT

3.9/5 (180)

The next installment of the exclusive CS collection of the 777 airframe/engine variants is a digital replica of the Boeing KC-777 Tanker Transport.

In September 2006, Boeing announced that it would produce the KC-777 if the USAF required a larger tanker than the KC-767, and proffered that the KC-777 would be based on the 777-200LR. The KC-777 would be the largest tanker ever built and provide global strategic refueling and transport capability.

The KC-777 is a hypothetical military aerial refueling and transport aircraft based on the 777 twin-engine, long-range commercial jet developed and produced by American aerospace company Boeing.

Boeing conceived the idea of a KC-777 in 2006 and proffered that such a variant would be based on the 777-200LR (long range) iteration of the 777 family. The KC-777 would be the largest military tanker ever built and provide global strategic refueling and transport capability.

The primary mission of the KC-777 would be aerial refueling of other military aircraft. It would be able to carry more than 350,000 pounds of fuel and offload more than 220,000 pounds to other aircraft during a single mission. In-flight refueling would be accomplished through two mechanisms, a steerable telescoping refueling probe and wing air refueling pods (WARPs). The steerable telescoping refueling probe would be mounted on the underside of the rear fuselage of the aircraft. It would be remotely controlled by a specialist onboard the tanker to connect with following aircraft in need of fuel. WARPs are wing-mounted systems with retractable hoses tipped with drogue receptacles for aircraft equipped with in-flight refueling (IFR) probes. The use of WARPs in addition to its refueling probe would allow the KC-777 to refuel multiple aircraft simultaneously.

The KC-777 would also perform military passenger and cargo transport operations. The aircraft could carry up to 320 passengers, 37 standard pallets, or some combination.

The base of the KC-777, the 777-200LR, measures 209 feet, 1 inch in length, stands 61 feet, 1 inch tall, and has a wingspan of 212 feet, 7 inches. It is powered by two GE90 high-bypass turbofan engines that each deliver up to 115,300 pounds of thrust. It has a range of 9,845 miles, a service ceiling of 43,100 feet above sea level, and a cruising speed of 554 miles per hour.
