The Su-57 Felon is a single-seat, twin-engine, supersonic multi-role fighter designed by Sukhoi of Russia. The jet, the design of which includes a number of cutting-edge innovations like thrust vectoring, supercruise, and advanced avionics, is Russia’s first stealth aircraft and its first fifth-generation fighter. The Felon (its NATO reporting name) took its maiden flight on January 29, 2010 and was introduced on December 25, 2020. It primarily serves the Russian Air Force and the Russian Navy and can carry a range of air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, including missiles, rockets, and bombs.

The Su-57 features a blended wing body design with vortex controllers on its leading edge root extensions. This, combined with its all-moving horizontal and vertical stabilizers and thrust vectoring, gives the Su-57 phenomenal performance characteristics. The Felon is powered by two Saturn AL-41F1 afterburning turbofan engines that each produce a maximum of 19,900 pounds of thrust in military power and 32,000 pounds of thrust under full afterburner. The Su-57 has a subsonic range of 2,200 miles, a supersonic range of 930 miles, and a service ceiling of 66,000 feet above sea level. It has a top speed in supercruise of 860 miles per hour (Mach 1.3) and 1,320 miles per hour (Mach 2.0) under full afterburner.

The Sukhoi Su-57 is a futuristic-looking ultra high-performance aerial stunner. Not an easy machine to master, the Su-57 will nevertheless enthrall all aviators who take the time to harness this beast’s power and agility.
