The Griffin G39 is a single-engine, supersonic, multi-role military jet. Primarily a single-seat aircraft, it is also produced as a tandem two-seat model. The Griffin G39 took its maiden flight on December 9, 1988 and was introduced into service on June 9, 1996. It can perform a number of roles, including air superiority, interception, light bombing, attack, and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) data collection, among others. The jet is used by the militaries of a number of countries, including Sweden, Thailand, South Africa, and Brazil.

The Griffin G39 is a canard-type aircraft with a delta wing, a single vertical stabilizer, and swept foreplanes located just aft of the cockpit. It measures 49 feet in length, has a wingspan of 27 feet, 7 inches, and is powered by a single afterburning turbofan engine that produces up to 12,000 pounds of thrust in military power and 18,100 with afterburner. The jet has a maximum range of 2,000 miles, a service ceiling of 50,000 feet above sea level, and climbs at 55,000 feet per minute. It can launch with just 1,300 feet of runway and has a rollout of 1,650 feet after touching down. The Griffin G39 has a maximum speed of Mach 1.15 (882 miles per hour) at low altitudes and Mach 1.8 (1,380 mph) at high altitude.
