HELICOPTERTURBINEROTORWAYJETEXEC

5/5 (2)

The JetExec is a highly modified kit-built helicopter, which is a turbine engine conversion of the RotorWay Exec 162F, originally designed and manufactured by RotorWay International. The conversion involves replacing the original piston engine with a a Solar T-62-32 turboshaft. This unit was originally developed for the US Army for a single-seat helicopter, and a variant is used as an APU in the Boeing Chinook. The turboshaft engine has no warm-up time, has fewer moving parts, is easier to maintain, and causes less wear and tear on the machine and pilot.

The engine provides an additional 15 kw (20 hp) in power over the RotorWay engine and performance is less affected by altitude, but it uses 58 litres (15.3 US gals) per hour in cruise. An electronic governor maintains 100% rotor RPM automatically. Whereas the RotorWay 162F has belts driving the main and tail-rotor assemblies. The three belts used to drive the tail-rotor have been replaced with a shaft drive and a tail-rotor gearbox. With the main rotor shaft being driven through a large gearbox coupled via a sprag clutch to a reduction gearbox and centrifugal clutch to the engine gearbox. The electrical and fuel systems, and the oil cooling system, were completely redesigned. Chip detectors and temperature probes are installed in the gearboxes to detect metal particles and give an early warning of problems, significantly enhancing the helicopter's performance and reliability.

The JetExec features a sleek, aerodynamic design, characterized by a two-seat, side-by-side cockpit with large windows for excellent visibility. The airframe is constructed from a combination of aluminum and composite materials, ensuring a lightweight yet robust structure.

The conversion to a turboshaft engine brings several advantages, including increased power output, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced maintenance requirements. This upgrade allows the JetExec to achieve higher speeds, greater altitude capabilities, and longer range compared to its piston-powered counterpart.

Additionally, the JetExec is known for its responsive handling and agility, making it popular among helicopter enthusiasts and pilots looking for a high-performance, personal rotorcraft. Its advanced avionics and modern "glass" instrumentation provide a sophisticated flying experience, while the customizable nature of the kit allows builders to tailor the helicopter to their specific preferences and requirements.

The JetExec is a two-seat, kit-built, light helicopter developed by American rotorcraft company RotorWay. The JetExec is a variant of the RotorWay Exec that uses a gas turbine engine in place of the original piston engine. The base design took its first flight in 1994 and it was introduced that same year.

The JetExec features a 2-blade main rotor system, a 2-blade anti-torque tail rotor, and landing gear skids. The cockpit has side-by-side seating and glass panel avionics. Aviators know the aircraft as a reliable and forgiving performer.

The JetExec has an overall length of 22 feet, stands 8 feet, 7 inches tall, and has a main rotor diameter of 25 feet. It is powered by a Solar T62 turboshaft engine that generates up to 150 horsepower. It has a range of 225 miles, a service ceiling of 13,500 feet above sea level, and a maximum climb rate of 1,500 feet per minute. It cruises at 115 miles per hour and has a maximum speed of 125 mph. The JetExec has an in-ground-effect hover limit of 7,000 feet above sea level and an out-of-ground-effect hover limit of 6,000 feet above sea level.
