Legendary History In 2015, over the course of seven months, pilot Michael Smith flew around the world in a SeaRey, setting a record as the first person to fly a solo circumnavigation of the globe in a single-engine flying boat. Smith chronicled his journey in the book "Voyage of the Southern Sun".

The SeaRey Elite is a single-engine, high-wing, light sport amphibious hydroplane by American aircraft manufacturer Progressive Aerodyne. The flying boat features a two-seat, side-by-side cockpit with high-visibility canopy, a Garmin glass cockpit, and advanced composite construction. The aircraft took its maiden flight on November 13, 1992 and was introduced in the following weeks. Over 500 have been built since 1992 and manufacturing is ongoing.

Pilots know the SeaRey Elite as a fantastically versatile aircraft due to its ability to operate from land or from water. It requires just 350 feet of water run to lift into the air, can taxi on beaches composed of sand or rocks, and can climb at more than 1,000 feet per minute, which gives it the ability to get into and out of the tightest locations in all corners of the globe. An excellent performer in the air, it is also extremely stable in the water.

The craft measures 22 feet, 5 inches in length, stands 6 feet, 5 inches tall (on land), and has a wingspan of 30 feet, 10 inches. The SeaRey Elite is powered by an 80-horsepower Rotax 912 4-cylinder piston engine in a pusher configuration. It has a range of 380 miles, a service ceiling of 18,000 feet above sea level, and it climbs at 1,100 feet per minute. It cruises at 98 miles per hour, stalls at 38 (flaps down), has a top speed of 113 mph, and has an engine-off glide ratio of 8:1.

The possibilities are wide open from within the cockpit of the Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey Elite. Able to operate out of just about any airfield or any body of water, its missions are limited only by the imaginations of those flying it.
