L-1011 TRISTAR

The TriStar was ahead of its time. Built by Lockheed between 1970 and 1984, the L-1011 introduced features that became industry standard decades later - and earned a loyal following among the crews who flew it. Now this classic widebody arrives in MSFS 2020 with deep systems simulation, a full flight engineer station, and authentic inertial navigation - at a price that makes it easy to come aboard.

A TRUE THREE-CREW AIRLINER Fly from the left seat or take the flight engineer's panel. Every major system is modelled in a custom C++ WASM engine, built for realism and performance.

A COCKPIT BUILT TO BE USED

  • More than 1900 "live" cockpit elements - every lamp, drum counter, button, bug and lever is modelled and working.
  • Authentic animations and tooltips on every control
  • Custom cockpit lighting with dimmable panels
  • Detailed exterior model with 8K textures, animated gear, flaps, slats and spoilers

SYSTEMS

  • Autopilot / autothrottle
  • Electrical - AC/DC generation, buses and load management
  • Fuel - tanks, crossfeed, boost pumps and fuel management from the engineer's station
  • Hydraulic systems A/B/C/D
  • Pneumatics - engine bleeds, isolation valves, packs and hot air distribution with realistic pressure behavior
  • Pressurization / air conditioning
  • Direct Lift Control / Autoland
  • Dual CIVA inertial navigation with built-in route planner

CIVA INERTIAL NAVIGATION - ROUTE PLANNER INCLUDED Navigate the way TriStar crews did: waypoint by waypoint through dual CIVA INS units. Included with the aircraft at no extra cost, our route planner turns any flight plan into ready-to-load CIVA waypoints - so you spend your time flying, not calculating.

The L-1011 TriStar is a 3-engine, wide-body, long-range passenger airliner. The aircraft took its maiden flight on November 16, 1970, and entered service in April of 1972. The aircraft became renowned for its state-of-the-art capabilities, quiet operation, safety, novel engineering, passenger comforts, and reliability.

Crewed by three, the trijet could accommodate up to 400 passengers, although it typically transported up to 256 in standard seating arrangements during its airliner operational tenure. The aircraft became a favorite of both flight crew and passengers after its release.

The L-1011 features a swept main wing, a standard empennage, and is powered by three high-bypass turbofan engines. Two of the engines are wing-mounted, and a third is center-mounted on the aircraft’s tail with an S-shaped inlet duct originating at the base of the vertical stabilizer. The arrangement of the engines and use of novel engineering practices and materials earned the aircraft the nickname “whisperliner” due to its quiet operation, notably at take-off. It boasts an advanced fly-by-wire flight control system and passenger amenities including anti-glare windows and closets. One of its most notable features is an advanced autopilot system that can take-off, fly thousands of miles, and land without human intervention—a first for its era.

The L-1011 measures 177 feet, 9 inches in length, stands 55 feet, 4 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 155 feet, 4 inches. It has a maximum range of 3,084 miles, a ceiling of 42,000 feet above sea level, and a cruising speed of 598 miles per hour.
