AS 33 Me

Got Friends

GLIDERAS 33 MESOARINGLX FAMILYSAILPLANE

5/5 (13)

The AS 33 Me is a high-performance sailplane that blends championship-winning aerodynamics with the freedom of electric self-launch. Designed by Alexander Schleicher and brought to Microsoft Flight Simulator by Got Friends, the AS 33 Me is powered by a retractable EMRAX air-cooled electric motor, giving glider pilots complete independence from towplanes and winches. Development was guided in part by Stefan Langer, a three-time gliding World Champion and one of the most respected voices in the soaring community. His firsthand experience with the AS 33 Me and deep understanding of modern glider dynamics gave us the resources to push for a higher standard of realism in both behavior and detail. We have included a special SteFly Livery to celebrate his partnership with our team for this release. The AS 33 Me is offered as a single, fully featured release, with support for both 15-meter and 18-meter wingspan configurations. It has been built from the ground up to push the limits of what a sailplane can be in MSFS, featuring precision flight modeling, wing flex, surface animations, advanced battery logic, and an immersive cockpit experience. We’d like to thank Microsoft and the soaring community for continuing to support our growing lineup of gliders. Your feedback has been critical in shaping the future of gliders in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The AS 33 Me is a single-seat, mid-wing, high-performance sailplane developed and manufactured by the Alexander Schleicher Company of Germany. Available with a wing length of either 15m or 18m, it comprises an electric-powered self-launching / flight sustaining system that provides pilots independence and safety.

Schleicher announced the AS 33 Me in December of 2020 and the prototype took its maiden flight in September of 2022. The model has proven to be extremely popular with glider pilots throughout the world due to its precision handling and exceptional aerodynamic characteristics. The AS 33 Me is a wonderful aircraft for hunting thermals, exploring ridge lift, and embarking on cross-country journeys.

Schleicher developed the AS 33 Me based on a long lineage of successful high-performance sailplane designs, notably their ASG 29 (introduced in 2006) and their ASW 27 (introduced in the mid-1990s). The AS 33 Me features composite construction throughout its fuselage, wing, and empennage (primarily carbon fiber reinforced plastics). The wing is a high aspect ratio design and incorporates winglets for the mitigation of drag-inducing vortex generation. The sailplane has a T-tail empennage and a 2-point, centerline landing gear system with a retractable main landing gear wheel. It incorporates a sophisticated water ballast system to optimize flight performance.

Schleicher integrated a retractable electric-powered thrust system in AS 33 Me for self-launching and flight sustenance. Comprised of an air-cooled, 35 kilowatt EMRAX electric motor mated to a specially designed 2-blade composite propeller, pilots can safely self-launch the AS 33 Me, freeing themselves from the need for a tow airplane or a winch. During flight, pilots can deploy the thrust system for an altitude boost in case of a lack of natural lift or to extend range. Powered by a lithium ion polymer battery, the thrust system can be quickly deployed and retracted through an intuitive control in the cockpit. When retracted, the thrust system remains within the fuselage so as not to cause any aerodynamic drag.

The AS 33 Me boasts an advanced, intuitive cockpit that features the LX Family instrument suite. The system provides pilots with real-time data, including navigation and flight performance readings. One of the most notable features of the AS 33 Me is its canopy, which provides pilots sweeping, panoramic views of the sky through which it soars and the planet below.
