The S.XIII is a single-engine, single-seat, World War I-era combat biplane developed and manufactured by French aircraft producer SPAD (Société Pour L'Aviation et ses Dérivés). It took its maiden flight on April 4, 1917, and entered service one month later with the French Air Force. The S.XIII proved to be one of the most formidable fighter aircraft of its era due to its speed, maneuverability, and armament.

SPAD constructed nearly 8,500 examples of the S.XIII, with many more planned before the end of World War I cancelled most orders. The airframe was adopted throughout the French Air Force and was also used by the Americans, British, Italians, and Belgians during the war. The S.XIII saw extensive use after World War I with the militaries of several countries, including those of Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Japan, Greece, and the Soviet Union, among others. Several are on static display throughout the world, although none remain in flyable condition.

SPAD developed the S.XIII from their successful S.XII, which took its maiden flight in May of 1916 and entered service with the French Air Force in August of 1916. SPAD fitted the S.XIII with a more powerful engine than its predecessor and added more armament. The increased power, combined with improved aerodynamics, made the S.XIII exceptionally nimble. During its operational tenure, it was capable of several mission sets, including air-to-air combat, air-to-surface attack, and light bombing.

The S.XIII features an open cockpit, a fixed standard undercarriage, and a traditional empennage. It was constructed with wood framing and fabric covering. During combat, it was armed with two fuselage-mounted machine guns and could carry up to four 25-pound bombs. The S.XIII measures 20 feet, 6 inches in length, stands 8 feet, 6 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 27 feet, 1 inch. SPAD fitted the S.XIII with a 200-horsepower Hispano-Suiza 8-cylinder piston connected to a 2-blade, fixed-pitch, wood propeller. The S.XIII had a range of 171 miles, an endurance of two hours, a service ceiling of 22,300 feet above sea level, and a top speed of 131 miles per hour.
