Just Flight

AIRCRAFTJET146STUDYAIRLINER

4.6/5 (703)

This highly detailed simulation of the 146 regional airliner has been developed by Just Flight's in-house development team after hands-on research with three real-life 146 aircraft. The 146 is a British-built four engine regional airliner with an iconic high T-tail, short undercarriage and distinctive airbrake, sometimes called the 'Jumbolino' due to its 747 Jumbojet like characteristics. First flown in 1981, the 146 has been used for regional passenger and cargo services, and even flying the British Royal Family and Government, thanks to its short-field performance and quiet operation. A total of 221 of the airframe were built until the RJ superseded it in 1993, making it one of the success stories of British commercial aviation.

Model

  • Accurately modelled 146-100, 200, 300 passenger, QC/QT cargo and RAF variants, built using extensive research materials and hands-on experience with real aircraft
  • Hundreds of external animations including all doors, airstairs, iconic airbrake and landing gear
  • Highly detailed and fully interactable passenger cabins featuring controllable lighting, fully simulated music player, and even a functional coffee maker!
  • 4K and 8K PBR textures are used to produce the highest possible texture clarity, with 44 liveries and 8 different variants
  • Highly immersive interior and exterior lighting, including dimmable and moveable cockpit lights
  • Custom ground equipment

Cockpit

  • A truly 3D cockpit environment right down to accurately modelled seat belts and screw heads - every instrument is constructed fully in 3D with smooth animations
  • Cockpit textures feature wear and tear based on reference photos taken in the real aircraft to produce an authentic environment
  • Captain and First Officer positions are modelled with hundreds of functional switches, knobs and controls. Even the pilot and observer seats, cup holders and sun visors are functional!
  • Tablet EFB for controlling aircraft options and payloads, boarding simulation, failures, pushback controls, and SimBrief OFP and Navigraph charts support
  • Automatic aircraft configuration options to get you airborne in seconds, plus user state saving
  • Developed using the latest MSFS standards, including intuitive and easy-to-use controls for rotary knobs, multi-position switches and levers, and VR support

Custom-coded aircraft systems

  • Electrical system with generators, busbars, inverters and AC/DC power supplies
  • Hydraulic systems, including independent Yellow and Green systems, accumulators and PTU
  • Flight control system with servo-tab simulation, iconic tail-mounted airbrakes, stall and stick shaker warnings
  • Auto-flight system with multiple pitch and roll modes, including IAS/Mach hold, pitch/roll hold, LNAV and Sync modes
  • Extensive navigation options including HSIs, RMIs, TCAS, GPWS and VOR/DME capabilities
  • Two FMS units, the Universal UNS-1 FMS and the Working Title FMS
  • Fuel system with realistic fuel load and burn based on real-world data, fuel transfer, pumps and optional auxiliary tanks
  • Communication system with dual VHF COMM, NAV and ADF radios, with 8.33kHz spacing support, and transponder with ATC ID
  • Engine systems with realistic engine starting procedures, and accurately simulated Thrust Modulation System (TMS) with take-off (full or flexible), maximum continuous thrust, TGT and descent modes
  • Realistic flight dynamics based on real world data and input from current 146 pilots
  • And much more, including air-con and pressurisation, pneumatic and ice systems

Sounds

  • Native (Wwise) sound package taking full advantage of the new MSFS capabilities
  • Studio quality Lycoming ALF-502 engine noise recorded from RAF C.Mk3 ZE708
  • Over 450 flight deck sound effects recorded from RAF CC.Mk2 ZE701
  • Pilot and cabin announcements, including co-pilot callouts
  • Detailed equipment audio such as the APU, brake fans, electrical circuits, hydraulic equipment, flap howl and many more

The BAe 146 Professional is a 4-engine, high-wing regional airliner and cargo carrier by British Aerospace. The aircraft, which was produced in three primary variants, took its maiden flight on September 3, 1981 and was introduced to commercial service in May of 1983. A total of 387 were built during its production run from 1983 to 2001.

After its release, the 146 quickly earned a reputation as a muscular, capable aircraft, notably for short field operations. While not designated a STOL (short take-off and landing) airplane, it serviced a number of airports with short runways throughout the world that otherwise could not accommodate jets of its size and carrying capacity. The jet primarily supports the airline industry, but is also used for freight and some specialty applications, notably aerial firefighting.

The BAe 146 features a swept main wing with a span of 86 feet, 5 inches, a stout fuselage that accommodates up to six-abreast seating, and a T-tail empennage. It is powered by four wing-mounted Lycoming ALF 502R-5 geared turbofan engines that each produce 7,000 pounds of thrust. The location of the engines on the high-mounted wing makes the aircraft suitable for operations from relatively austere and unimproved airfields as they are less likely to ingest debris. The 146 cruises at 490 miles per hour, has a service ceiling of 35,000 feet above sea level, and depending on configuration and loading, has a range of up to 2,400 miles.

The BAe 146 Professional, with its four large, wing-mounted engines and conspicuous T-tail, has the appearance of a serious, no-nonsense machine, and its performance lives up to its looks. From the cockpit, pilots can maintain tight control while easing into some of the world’s toughest airfields, and have the power to thunder back into the sky at take-off.
