Black Square's Starship brings you one of the most technically advanced aircraft simulations for Microsoft Flight Simulator, with over 230 possible failures, an accurate recreation of the one-of-a-kind Collins AMS-850 avionics suite, and the most advanced pressurization and cabin temperature simulations in MSFS.

Avionics and instrument panel temperatures are simulated, and require proper management of cooling systems for continued operation.

Black Square's new tablet interface lets you configure all options, manage payload, control failures, and monitor engines, electrical schematics, and environmental control systems, all from within the simulator. The failure system allows for persistent wear, MTBF, and scheduled failures for nearly every component in the aircraft. The Starship's electrical system is the most accurate yet for Black Square, featuring the Starship's implementation of the King Air triple-fed bus layout, and backup batteries for essential avionics. All systems in the Black Square Starship were created with reference to over 10,000 pages of operating handbooks, maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, and electrical schematics.

Users may choose whether to fly with modern GPS capabilities that have been added to the original AMS-850, with autopilot coupling to a GNS430 for modern approach, departure, and arrival capabilities, or with only the navigational functionality of the original Starship, including VLF and Omega radionavigation.

A 190+ page manual provides instruction on all equipment, and 62 in-game checklists with control/instrument highlighting are included for normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.

This simulation was created in partnership with real Starship owners to ensure the legacy of Starship and the operational knowledge lives on for a new generation of Starship admirers.

Checklists

Over 600 checklist items are provided for 62 Normal, Abnormal, and Emergency procedures in textual form in the manual, and in-game, using the MSFS native checklist system with control and instrument highlighting. If it’s in the checklist, it’s settable in the aircraft!

Sounds

Black Square's Starship features a custom soundset created by Boris Audio Works, recorded from the real aircraft. High quality engine and cockpit sounds will immerse you in the simulation. Sounds like engine starting are not mere recordings, but instead many layered sounds, constructed based on the underlying simulation.

Flight Dynamics

The flight features performance to match the real world aircraft. The flight model also features the best canard aerodynamics possible in MSFS 2020, building upon Black Square's Velocity XL. Engine and aerodynamic performance should be within 2% of POH values.

The Starship is an American twin-turboprop business aircraft. It is notable for its distinctive canard wing design, pusher propulsion configuration, all-glass cockpit, and extensive use of composite materials. The aircraft has a pressurized cabin that can accommodate up to eight, including two in its cockpit. It took its maiden flight on February 15, 1986, and entered service on April 25, 1989. A total of 53 were produced during a manufacturing run that spanned from 1983 to 1995.

Conceived in the late 1970s, the Starship design comprises a swept main wing mounted on the rear of its fuselage. The wing has winglets at its tips, each of which incorporates a rudder for yaw control. A ventral strake adds to the aircraft’s yaw stability. The Starship has a variable geometry canard wing just aft of its nose, which, combined with the aerodynamic properties of the main wing, mitigates the risk of aerodynamic stall.

The Starship pioneered several aircraft design features, including the first extensive use of composite materials in a business aircraft and first use of an all-glass cockpit in a business aircraft. The model was the first business class twin turboprop pusher to be FAA certified.

The Starship measures 46 feet, 1 inch in length, stands 12 feet, 1 inch tall, and has a wingspan of 54 feet, 6 inches. It is powered by two 1,200-horsepower turboprop engines, each of which turns a 5-blade, composite propeller.

The Starship has a range of 1,742 miles, a service ceiling of 41,000 feet above sea level, and a maximum climb rate of 2,748 feet per minute. It cruises at 353 miles per hour, stalls at 112 mph, and has a maximum speed of 385 mph.
