This is the high performance Q-200 sport aircraft, built in the United States by Quickie Aircraft Corporation. This sleek two seater was a homebuilt kit plane that you assembled. This version was the high performance 100HP model, powered by the Continental O-200 4 cylinder engine. The futuristic design featured a Canard 'Twin Wing' layout, with elevators on the front wing and ailerons on the rear wing. Some interesting features include the Flexor spoiler system that work with the aileron pitch and are similar in function to flaps, and also the twin fuel tank layout where the main 'Header' tank in front houses 5 gallons just behind the engine, while a larger 15 gallon fuel tank lives under the front of the seats. Fuel is pumped by electric transfer pump to the Header when the front tank gets low on fuel. Another interesting feature of this plane was the wingtip mounted main gear tires, which were in sleek aerodynamic pods. Incredibly, the Q only weighed 550 lbs dry, before passengers and fuel, and had a takeoff max weight of 1100 lbs. Note also the very narrow wingspan of only 16 feet, yet also note, they are two sets of wings, similar to the dragonfly insect, hence the name.
Some cool features for the cabin include rain effects on the plexiglass, changeable 'exterior' plexi tint, variable instrumentation light via the Panel Light Switch 'rocker-dimmer', 'Blue Glow' lighting for dome light which is also great for night flying, OshKosh Mode for parking which will deploy two small, cool looking tents for camping out in grass fields.
There are 13 different liveries of planes that include many different 'themes' of interiors in various fabrics, leather, and also panel facia materials which include carbon fiber, fancy racing stripes, light blue, gray, and even wood. Some of the exterior paint schemes range from base model white to exotic air racer style paint schemes, to automotive colors inspired by supercar companies.
This plane is a high performance aircraft. It is the higher end performer of the Dragonfly airplane line, the 100HP version. It is almost overpowered on takeoff, just like a Pitts, Extra 330, or P-51. You must accelerate gently, slowly accelerating to speed, or you can spin out. She will cruise nicely at 140 knots, and at full speed, can get up to 180 knots if the weather is permissable. She is extremely aerodynamic, so she will need Flexor spoilers on steep approaches. On landings, if you are not careful, she will try to bounce. Just make sure you touch the ground with the tail wheel first, gently, and you should be fine. Stall will occur with full Flexor setting at about 60 to 65 knots.
If you love futuristic things, X-Wings, sport aircraft, high performance flying, homebuilts, radical aircraft design, then this plane is for you.
