Built by North American Aviation in their Inglewood, California factory in 1944 as a P-51D-25-NA, the airframe that would become Wee Willy II first served the United States as part of the Army Air Forces and was then transferred to the Indonesian Air Force. The airframe was restored in 1984 using part from a number of other P-51s, and has used the same paint scheme since 1985. In 2017, Wee Willy II took first place in the Unlimited Silver race with an average speed of 337.310 miles per hour, and in 2021 it placed 3rd in the Unlimited Silver race with a speed of 312.841 mph.
