4.4/5 (406)

One of the most visually distinctive fighters developed during the Second World War, this famous fighter-bomber with its iconic inverted gull wing is ready for deployment and eager to grace your simulated skies. Created exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, our Corsair features an intricate flight model, high-definition textures, and an extremely detailed and fully animated 3D model.

From the moment you choose one of the provided historically accurate liveries and settle into the cockpit of the Milviz FG-1D Corsair, you'll recognise this aircraft is a step above. From the detailed textures and precise 3D modelling inside and out, to the custom 3D gauges that allow you a window into the behaviour of the Corsair, every detail has been brought to life with the intent to maximise immersion. Under the long nose, the supercharged R-2800 Double Wasp rumbles to life, ready to leap into the sky at your command. The flight control and handling have been designed to closely replicate the experience of flying the real aircraft; you'll have your hands full taming the amazing amount of torque and power this aircraft can produce - 2800 hp coupled to a huge three blade propeller measuring 13 feet and 4 inches is lot of horsepower for anyone to control.

Fully under your control are also a variety of simulated systems: A realistically modeled engine with water injection, detailed fuel system, detailed electrical system, detailed hydraulic system, closely simulated start-up and shut down procedures and behavior, undercarriage dive braking and period avionics. Paired with this high level of detail is the capability for catastrophic engine failure - ensuring that it's worth the time spent to review the included aircraft manual!

The Milviz FG-1D Corsair rewards pilot concentration and masterful flying; by-the-numbers capability is available at all flight regimes. Proper technique will be required to recover from stalls, as well as for performing safe landings and textbook take-offs. Replicating the complex flight dynamics on such a powerful and high-performance aircraft such as the Corsair is no easy task. However, our FDE experts have employed every bit of their considerable knowledge, to arrive at an aircraft that compares closely to the real thing - an aircraft whose difficult handling earned it a well known nickname: the 'Ensign Eliminator'.

Note: As of early 2023, Milviz (Miilitary Visualizations) underwent a name change to Blackbird Simulations. This is reflected in our website links, but not in our products released on the Marketplace prior to the name change. Apologies for any confusion. Same great products, same great people, different name! Please visit us on our website, forums, or Discord server to learn more!

The FG-1D Corsair is an American single-engine, single-seat, multi-mission military aircraft notable for its roles in World War II and in the Korean War. The Corsair served a number of roles during its days in combat, including air superiority, attack, and light bombing. First flown on May 29, 1940, the Corsair entered service late in December, 1942, and would go on to become a legend in the Pacific Theater of the war through service to both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. The FG-1D was also known within the military as the Corsair Mark IV.

The Corsair features a distinctive inverted gull wing, a traditional undercarriage with retractable main landing gear, and a standard empennage. It measures 33 feet, 8 inches in length, stands 14 feet, 9 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 41 feet. The aircraft is powered by an 18-cylinder, air-cooled, radial piston engine mated to a 4-blade propeller. The powerplant generates 2,380 horsepower and propels the aircraft to a cruising speed of 215 miles per hour and a top speed of 446 mph. The Corsair climbs at an impressive 4,360 feet per minute, has a ceiling of 41,500 feet above sea level, and it has a range of 1,000 miles.

One of the great legends of military aviation, the Corsair’s massive engine and unique design makes this one of the most beautiful, memorable, and eminently flyable aircraft in history. Aviators will experience the Corsair as an extension of themselves while flying low and slow, diving from tens of thousands of feet aloft, or while performing intricate aerobatics.
