Initiated in 1993, this family is the third primary lineage of the 737, and was developed from the 737 Classic. The Next Generation line boasts a number of improvements over previous lineages of 737, including more efficient engines, a refined wing, and a glass cockpit.

Boeing started developing the 737-700 in 1993, and it took its first flight on February 9, 1997. It was introduced into service on December 17, 1997, and over 1,000 have been delivered, not including a number of variants. The 737-700 can carry up to 149 passengers, although it typically accommodates from 128 to 140, depending on seating arrangements.

The 737-700 features a swept main wing with a span of 117 feet, 5 inches, and has an overall length of 110 feet, 4 inches. It is powered by two wing-mounted CFM International CFM-7B high-bypass turbofan engines with rated thrust up to 26,000 pounds each. It has a service ceiling of 41,000 feet above sea level, a range of 3,464 miles, and cruises at 518 miles per hour.
