About the Boeing 747-300 The Boeing 747-300 is a classic variant of the legendary "Jumbo Jet," bridging the gap between the original 747-100/200 and the more advanced 747-400. Introduced in the early 1980s, the -300 featured an extended upper deck, offering increased passenger capacity while retaining the robust performance and reliability of its predecessors.

Known for its distinctive stretched hump, the 747-300 became a workhorse for many airlines, operating long-haul routes across the globe. While it lacked some of the modern avionics of later models, it remained a favorite among pilots for its powerful engines and stable handling characteristics.

Passengers cherished the spacious, comfortable cabins, making it a symbol of luxury air travel during its heyday. Though eventually overshadowed by the more efficient 747-400, the -300 remains an iconic aircraft in aviation history.

Designed for discerning simmers, the Boeing 747-300 Professional brings this classic aircraft to life with unprecedented realism and attention to detail, offering an immersive experience for both casual flyers and hardcore aviation enthusiasts.

The 747-300 is a 4-engine, long-range, wide-body commercial jet airliner developed and manufactured by American aerospace company Boeing. The -300 is the third production iteration of the storied 747 airframe, the world’s first “wide body” commercial jet airliner. The prototype of the 747 took its maiden flight on February 9, 1969, and the first production variant, the 747-100, entered service on January 22, 1970. The -100 proved to be a resounding success, and Boeing engineers followed the debut model with an improved version with more powerful engines, the 747-200. Introduced in February of 1971, the -200 has improved range and a higher take-off weight compared to the -100. Boeing created the 747-300 by stretching the upper deck of the -200 by 23 feet, 4 inches. The -300 took its maiden flight on October 5, 1982 and it entered commercial service in March of 1983.

The 747 concept began in the 1960s as interest in commercial air travel rapidly accelerated throughout the world. Pan American World Airways, more commonly called “Pan Am,” approached Boeing with a concept to create a high-capacity, intercontinental aircraft that would optimize operational efficiency and hence greatly boost travel economy on a per-seat basis. After 16 intensive months of development, the 747 was ready for its maiden flight in early 1969. The design comprised the distinctive 747 “hump” at the front of the fuselage with an elevated cockpit to accommodate a nose-loading cargo door. Its layout accommodated up to an incredible 550 passengers, although most configurations used far fewer seats. Engineers incorporated newly innovated high-bypass turbofan engines, which are quieter and more fuel efficient than turbojet engines.

A marvel of innovation, the 747 proved to be a tremendous evolutionary leap in commercial air transport upon its commercial introduction. Its wide-body design earned it the title of the world’s first “jumbo jet,” and it soon became known as the “Queen of the Skies.”

Boeing developed three subvariants of the 747-300, the standard passenger carrying version, a high-capacity version with shorter range, and a version that optimized space for both passengers and freight. In total, Boeing produced 81 747-300s during a production run that spanned from 1983 to 1990.

The 747-300 measures 231 feet, 10 inches in length, stands 63 feet, 5 inches high, and has a wingspan of 195 feet, 8 inches. Crewed by three, it accommodates up to 366 passengers in 3-class seating or up to 452 in 2-class seating. It is powered by four high-bypass turbofan engines, either the Pratt & Whitney JT9D, the Rolls-Royce RB211, or the General Electric CF6. It has a range of 7,280 miles, a service ceiling of 45,100 feet above sea level, and a cruise speed of 583 miles per hour.
