About the Boeing 747-400ER The Boeing 747-400ER (Extended Range) is a high-performance variant of the legendary 747-400, designed to fly farther and carry heavier payloads than its predecessor. Featuring structural reinforcements, additional fuel capacity, and upgraded engines, the -400ER was developed to meet the demands of ultra-long-haul routes, making it a favorite among airlines operating flights across the Pacific and other extended sectors.

With its enhanced range capabilities, the 747-400ER could fly non-stop routes that were previously unattainable for earlier 747 models, such as Sydney-Dallas or Johannesburg-Atlanta. Despite its increased performance, it retained the classic 747-400 cockpit and aerodynamic refinements, ensuring familiar handling for pilots while delivering superior efficiency.

Though less common than the standard -400, the -400ER remains a testament to Boeing’s engineering excellence, offering unmatched reliability and versatility in both passenger and freighter configurations. Its powerful engines, increased takeoff weight, and extended range make it a true workhorse of the skies.

Designed for discerning simmers, the Boeing 747-400ER Professional brings this exceptional aircraft to life with unprecedented realism and attention to detail, offering an immersive experience for both casual flyers and hardcore aviation enthusiasts.

The 747-400ER is a 4-engine, wide-body, long-range commercial jet airliner developed and manufactured by American aerospace company Boeing. The aircraft is an extended range (ER) variant of the 747-400. The -400 is an evolved, more efficient, modernized variant of the 747, which took its first flight on February 9, 1969 and entered service on January 22, 1970. The 747-400 took its first flight on April 29, 1988 and entered service on February 9, 1989. The 747-400ER took its maiden flight on July 31, 2002 and Boeing began deliveries on October 31 of 2002.

The 747-400’s improvements over the original 747 include the addition of a glass cockpit, improved flight controls, a two-person crew, longer range, more passenger and cargo carrying capacity, and improved engines. The 747-400 shares the same base airframe as the 747. Notable exterior changes include a stretched upper deck and a wingspan extension with drag-reducing winglets. Structurally, the -400 uses stronger, lighter alloys than its progenitor. Additionally, it has improved landing gear and landing gear brakes. To create the 747-400ER, Boeing modified the 747-400’s airframe and strengthened its landing gear to accommodate up to two additional 3,240 U.S. gallon fuel tanks in its fuselage.

The 747-400ER measures 231 feet, 10 inches in length, stands 63 feet, 8 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 211 feet, 5 inches, including winglets. It is powered by four high-bypass turbofan engines, either the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 or the General Electric CF6, each of which delivers up to 63,300 pounds of thrust. It can carry up to 660 passengers, although it typically seats up to 416 in standard configurations.

The 747-400ER has a maximum range of 8,730 miles, a service ceiling of 45,100 feet above sea level, it cruises at 564 miles per hour, and it has a top speed of 600 mph.
