The A321 is a narrow-body, twin-engine passenger jet aircraft produced by Europe’s Airbus. A stretched version of the A320, the A321 is the longest of the A320 family and can carry up to 236 passengers. The aircraft first flew on March 11, 1993 with deliveries beginning in January of 1994, to German airline Lufthansa.

The A321 is 146 feet long, features a 25-degree swept wing with a span of 117 feet, 5 inches, and a fuselage-mounted empennage. The aircraft is powered by two wing-mounted high-bypass turbofan engines, either the International Aero Engines IAE 2500 or the CFM International CFM56-5B. The engines give the A321 a top speed of 541 miles per hour and a cruising speed of 514 mph with a range of 3,682 miles and a ceiling of 41,000 feet above sea level.

The second, and largest, variant of the Airbus A320 family, the A321 has proven itself through the decades to be a model of efficiency and reliability on routes throughout the globe. Designed to maximize aviator performance, the trailblazing fly-by-wire controls, side-stick cockpit layout, and digital avionics of the A321 allows pilots wide latitude in how they’ll fly the jet from launch, to miles above the earth’s surface, to landing.
