The MiG-29SMT is an upgrade of first-generation MiG-29s using enhancements on the MiG-29M. Additional fuel tanks in a further enlarged spine provide a maximum internal flight range of 2,100 km (1,300 mi). The cockpit has an enhanced HOTAS design, two 152 mm × 203 mm (6.0 in × 8.0 in) colour liquid crystal MFDs and two smaller monochrome LCDs. The MiG-29A lacked an advanced air-to-ground capability, thus the SMT upgrade adds the upgraded Zhuk-ME radar with air-to-ground radar detection and integrates air-to-ground guided weapons. It also has upgraded RD-33 ser.3 engines with afterburning thrust rated at 81 kN (18,000 lbf) each. The weapons load was increased to 4,500 kg (9,900 lb) on six underwing and one ventral hardpoints, with similar weapon choices to the MiG-29M. It can also accommodate non-Russian origin avionics and weapons

The MiG-29SMT is a twin-engine, single-seat, supersonic multi-role military aircraft built by the Russian Aircraft Company. It is an advanced iteration of the MiG-29, which first flew on October 6, 1977 and was introduced into service in July of 1982. The MiG-29, which has the NATO reporting name “Fulcrum,” has served a number of countries in the decades since its debut, including Malaysia, Ukraine, and Poland.

The MiG-29SMT variant of the MiG-29 first flew in April of 1998 and it was introduced in the mid-2000s. It incorporates a number of advances over its progenitor, including enhanced avionics, more efficient engines, and the ability to employ state-of-the-art precision guided munitions. It features six external hard points that can carry a variety of stores, including bombs, missiles, rocket pods, and external fuel tanks. The jet can perform a wide variety of missions, including air superiority, strike, close air support, and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) data collections.

The MiG-29SMT measures 56 feet, 10 inches in length, stands 15 feet, 6 inches tall, and has a swept main wing with a span of 37 feet, 3 inches. Its empennage is composed of horizontal flying tailplanes and twin vertical stabilizers. The aircraft is powered by two Klimov RD-33 series-3 afterburning turbofan engines that each produce up to 11,230 pounds of thrust in military power and 18,285 pounds in full afterburner. The MiG-29SMT has a top speed of 1,500 miles per hour (Mach 2.25), a range of 1,120 miles, and a ceiling of 60,000 feet above sea level. It can pull up to 9gs, and with a thrust-to-weight ratio of 1.09, it can rocket into the heights at an incredible 65,000 feet per minute.
