"The MiG-35 is a twin-engine, supersonic, multi-role military aircraft developed and manufactured by Russian aerospace company Mikoyan. The aircraft is an advanced evolution of the Mikoyan MiG-29 and has two variants, the single-seat MiG-35S and the tandem two-seat MiG-35UB. Mikoyan publicly unveiled the jet in 2005 and it took its maiden flight in 2007. The most advanced iteration of the MiG-35, the “renewed MiG-35,” took its maiden flight in December of 2016 and was introduced in June of 2019.
Mikoyan developed the MiG-35 from the MiG-29K and MiG-29M programs to compete with advanced fourth-generation fighters including the F-16, Dassault Rafale, and the Eurofighter Typhoon. The jet features advanced avionics, state-of-the-art fly-by-wire flight controls, advanced radar, and advanced targeting capabilities. It can perform a wide spectrum of missions, including interdiction, air superiority, light bombing, surface attack, and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) data collections. It is armed with a single 30mm autocannon and has nine hardpoints allowing it to carry external fuel tanks, rocket pods, missiles, and precision-guided and gravity bombs.
The MiG-35 measures 56 feet, 9 inches in length, stands 15 feet, 5 inches tall, and has a wingspan of 39 feet, 4 inches. It is powered by two Klimov RD-33 afterburning turbofan engines that each deliver up to 12,000 pounds of thrust in military power and 19,800 pounds with afterburner. The MiG-35 has a range of 1,300 miles, a service ceiling of 52,000 feet above sea level, and a rate of climb of 65,000 feet per minute. It cruises at 500 miles per hour, has a top speed of 1,300 mph, and can handle from -3 to +9 gs.
