The GA-8 Airvan is a single-engine Australian workhorse, ruggedly-built for flying in and out of small, unprepared airstrips. Extremely versatile and with very low operating costs, more than 260 Airvans are being used around the world for cargo and passenger transport, skydiving, air policing and search and rescue!

Featuring a detailed 3D model spanning four variants, authentic sounds and realistic flight handling, this flight simulator recreation of the GA-8 Airvan captures the look and feel of the real aircraft as closely as Microsoft Flight Simulator allows!

Some of the SWS Airvan features:

  • Dynamic visual weathering: the aircraft will accumulate dirt and mud over time, even when you aren't using it!
  • Environmental impact: weathering rate will vary depending on the environment and dirt can be washed away by rain.
  • Persistence: did you leave your visor down yesterday? That's how you will find it today. Did you leave the sim for a couple of weeks? Your plane might be due for a wash!
  • High-detail 3D model
  • Authentic, high quality sounds recorded a the real Airvan
  • Authentic flight model verified by GA-8 pilots
  • Cargo and passenger cabins
  • Cargo pod and non-cargo pod variants
  • Six liveries
  • Custom tablet, allowing control of the aircraft features and avionics hot-swapping
  • Optional autopilot
  • GTN750Xi and GTN750 support (PC-only)
  • High definition and performance friendly textures
  • Custom lighting

NOTE: Customers who buy the FS2020 version of the SWS Airvan will receive the 2024-native version for free when it is released.

The GA8 Airvan 8 is a single-engine, high-wing, utility monoplane engineered and manufactured in Australia. The aircraft seats eight, including the pilot. The Airvan was designed from the start as a workhorse, and since its first flight on March 3, 1995, it has delivered. The boxy GA8, of which roughly 250 have been produced, has served throughout the globe, supporting efforts that range from skydiving and tourism to law enforcement and cargo hauling, to name a few. While not technically a short take-off and landing (STOL) aircraft, pilots boast about its short field performance, notably in the backcountry and on unimproved runways.

The GA8 measures 24 feet, 9 inches, and has a straight main wing with a span of 40 feet, 3 inches. It has a fixed tricycle landing gear and a traditional empennage. The aircraft is powered by a Lycoming IO-540 piston engine that turns a constant-speed, 2-blade Hartzell propeller. The Airvan has a range of 840 miles, climbs at 780 feet per minute, and has a service ceiling of 20,000 feet above sea level. It cruises at 140 miles per hour and has a top end of 150 mph.

The GA8 Airvan 8 was created to get into and out of all types of airstrips, in a variety of conditions—with cargo. The sturdy, rugged aircraft, while eminently capable, is also forgiving, inviting aviators new to its cockpit to quickly work up to operating out of the world’s toughest locations.
