The legendary Alouette III helicopter is coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. 

The Sud Aviation Alouette III is a single-engine, light utility helicopter designed and manufactured in France in the 1950s. It was initially developed for both civil and military purposes, and has since been widely used for a variety of missions including transportation of personnel and cargo, aerial reconnaissance, search and rescue, and even as a gunship.

The Alouette III has a distinctive sleek and slender profile, with a three blade main rotor and a tail rotor mounted on the starboard side of the tail boom. It has a spacious cabin that can accommodate up to seven passengers or up to 1,200 kg of cargo, and can operate in a wide range of environmental conditions and altitudes.

The helicopter is powered by a single Turbomeca Artouste IIIB turboshaft engine, which provides a maximum power output of 870 horsepower. It has a maximum speed of around 220 km/h (120 knots) and a range of up to 500 km (270 nautical miles).

The Alouette III has been widely exported to many countries around the world, and has been produced in various versions, including a naval version for use on ships. It has also been extensively used in military conflicts, including the Vietnam War and the Falklands War.

The SA316B Alouette III is a single-engine utility helicopter developed and manufactured by French aircraft company Sud Aviation. The Alouette III (“alouette” is the French word for “lark”) took its maiden flight on February 28, 1959 and it was introduced in 1960. Sud Aviation developed the Alouette III from their earlier model, the Alouette II, which was developed from the company’s SE 3120 Alouette helicopter. More than 2,000 SA316B Alouette IIIs have been produced, including those by licensed manufacturers.

The SA316B, which can seat up to seven, including one or two pilots, is one of the helicopter world’s most successful models. It boasts exceptional range, lifting capability, endurance, versatility, and ruggedness. The airframe has become renowned for its high-altitude performance and has been used throughout the world’s mountain ranges, including the Alps and the Himalayas. The Alouette III has been used for a wide spectrum of missions by both civil users and by dozens of militaries throughout the globe over decades of operational tenure.

The SA316B comprises a 3-blade main rotor system and a 3-blade tail rotor. The helicopter measures 32 feet, 11 inches in length, stands 9 feet, 10 inches tall, and has a main rotor diameter of 36 feet, 2 inches. It is powered by a Turbomeca Artouste IIIB turboshaft engine that produces up to 600 horsepower to the helicopter. It has a range of 340 miles, a climb rate of 850 feet per minute, a cruise speed of 115 miles per hour, and a maximum speed of 130 mph.
