The F-22A is a single-seat, twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed exclusively for the United States Air Force (USAF). Known around the world for its unique shape, remarkable tactical supermanoeuvring, supersonic cruise capabilities, and its devastating ability to dominate adversary aircraft, the F-22A is the world’s most capable operational fifth generation air superiority fighter.

The world's most advanced operational air superiority / air dominance fighter presents a challenge for any flight simulation developer. A passion project of ours, the Top Mach Studios team has dedicated over two years of research and development to the creation of this model for Microsoft Flight Simulator and in doing so we have pushed the limits of what is possible in the sim. We can say with certainty that nothing available for MSFS can do what this airplane is capable of and this model will provide sim pilots of all abilities a variety of piloting challenges and many hours of entertainment and enjoyment. You’ll find this aircraft model to be an absolute thrill and a true joy to fly.

MODEL FEATURES AND CAPABILITIES Much about the F-22A is still classified; many basic details about the aircraft are still protected United States Government secret information. We’ve done our best, utilizing publicly available images, videos, graphics, statements by the USAF, pilots and engineers, and publicly known specifications to replicate what we know about the F-22A. In spite of the minimal publicly available unclassified information about the real world aircraft, we've rendered a highly capable, entertaining, and very realistic feeling model of the F-22A Raptor.

The F-22A Raptor is a twin-engine, single-seat, fifth-generation multi-role combat aircraft developed and produced by American aviation firm Lockheed Martin. The F-22A, which is operated exclusively by the United States Air Force, has a primary focus of air superiority, but can undertake a number of other mission sets including strike, interdiction, close air support, electronic warfare, SCAR (strike coordination and reconnaissance), and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) collections.

The F-22A comprises a number of notable attributes that together make it one of the most formidable tactical and operational aerial platforms in the world today. This includes advanced sensor fusion and data link / interoperability with other fifth-generation and fourth-generation aircraft which grants the F-22A superior situational awareness and command and control capabilities. The F-22A is a low observable aircraft, notably with regards to its radar cross section and its low-detectable AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar system. The F-22A has supercruise capability (supersonic speeds without afterburner) and features pitch-axis thrust vectoring granting it exceptional low-speed maneuverability. It can carry stores on its external hardpoints as well as in its internal bays, the exclusive use of which optimizes its low observability and aerodynamic performance.

The F-22A took its maiden flight on September 7, 1997 and it was introduced into service on December 15, 2005. It was first deployed overseas in February of 2007 to Kadena Air Base in Japan. The F-22A undertook its first combat operations on September 22, 2014 by dropping JDAMs (GPS-assisted precision munitions) during Operation Inherent Resolve in Syria.

The F-22 measures 62 feet, 1 inch in length and stands 16 feet, 8 inches tall. It features a trapezoidal main wing with a span of 44 feet, 6 inches and an empennage composed of two outwardly-canted vertical stabilizers and all-moving horizontal stabilators. It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 afterburning turbofan engines that produce more than 35,000 pounds of thrust each at maximum thrust. It has a ferry range of 1,800 nautical miles, a service ceiling of 65,000 feet above sea level, and climbs at 60,000+ feet per minute. The jet has a thrust / weight ratio of 1.08:1 and its flight control computer allows it to pull up to +9.0 gs. It can reach speeds of 1,220 miles per hour in supercruise (Mach 1.82) and greater than 1,500 mph (Mach 2.25) under full afterburner at altitude.
