2.2/5 (1621)

The Embraer ERJ-170 series are all new entrants into the top end of the regional jet airliner market, with seating capacities spanning from 70 to 78. Embraer announced the ERJ-170 in February 1999, and formally launched the program on June 14 that year at the Paris Airshow. The first member of the family is the 70 seat Embraer 170, which rolled out on October 29 2001 and first flew on February 19 2002. The public debut was at the Regional Airline Association convention at Nashville, Tennessee in May 2002, followed by its European debut at the Farnborough International Air Show in July the same year. The 170 was certificated in February 2004 and deliveries started in March 2004 to LOT Polish Airlines, US Airways and Alitalia Express. Embraer is also building the Embraer 175, stretched by 1.77m (5ft 10in) over the Embraer 170. The first flight was made on June 14 2003.

The Embraer E170 and E175 are two closely related narrow-body, twin-engine regional airliners in the E-jet family of aircraft produced by Brazilian aviation firm Embraer. The E170 took its first flight in February of 2002 and entered service in March of 2004, and the E175 took its maiden flight in June of 2003 and entered service in July of 2005. The most notable distinction between the two, which share 95% commonality, is length, with the E175 having a fuselage 5 feet, 10 inches longer than that of the E170.

Both the E170 and E175 feature a low main wing with a span of 85 feet, 4 inches, retractable tricycle landing gear, and a conventional empennage. The E170 has a fuselage length of 98 feet, 1 inch, and the E175 103 feet, 11 inches. Each is powered by two wing-mounted General Electric CF34-8E high-bypass turbofan engines that produce up to 14,200 pounds of thrust. Aircraft and flight data is delivered via the advanced Honeywell Primus system.

The E170 and E175 cruise at 495 miles per hour, have a maximum speed of 541 mph, and a service ceiling of 41,000 feet above sea level. The E170 has a range of 2,474 miles and the E175 2,532 miles.
