Nestled in Essex, North Weald Airfield has a rich aviation history that dates back to 1916, originally serving as a Royal Flying Corps base during World War I. The airfield played a significant role in both World Wars, becoming a key site for fighter aircraft operations during World War II.
After the war, North Weald transitioned to civilian use in the 1960s and became a popular destination for private pilots and flight training, fostering a vibrant community of aviation enthusiasts.
Today, North Weald Airfield is a thriving general aviation hub, hosting a variety of flight schools and private aircraft operations. It is home to the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and the Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance (EHAA), providing critical support for emergency response operations. The airfield features multiple cafés, aircraft maintenance services, and a vintage aircraft restoration company. Additionally, North Weald hosts events and airshows, drawing visitors from near and far to celebrate its storied legacy in aviation.
