AIRPORT

3.3/5 (30)

Felipe Angeles International Airport is a newly constructed airport located in the municipality of Zumpango, in the state of Mexico, about 35 km (22 mi) north of Mexico City. It officially began operations on March 21, 2022, and serves as an alternative airport to the already congested Mexico City International Airport.

The airport is named after General Felipe Angeles, a Mexican revolutionary who fought in the Mexican Revolution. It is built on a 4,400-hectare (10,870-acre) site and has two runways measuring 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) in length and 60 meters (197 feet) in width each, which are capable of handling large commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747.

The airport has a single passenger terminal with a capacity of handling up to 20 million passengers annually, which is expected to increase in the future. The terminal features modern amenities, including duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, lounges, and a VIP area.

Felipe Angeles International Airport is designed to help reduce congestion at the Mexico City International Airport, which has been operating beyond its capacity for many years. It is also expected to boost economic growth in the region and create job opportunities. The airport is part of the Mexican government's efforts to modernize the country's aviation infrastructure and improve air connectivity.
