Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport (LIRI) is located just 40 km southeast of Naples and the famous Amalfi Coast. It is the perfect starting point for scenic flights along the spectacular coastline all the way to the majestic Mount Vesuvius. The runway, at around 1,600 m, was recently extended, allowing operations not only for GA aircraft but also for smaller airliners such as easyJet and Wizz Air. Approaches over the coast are especially thrilling, as mountains and sea lie close to the field. A particular challenge is posed by the many greenhouses in the area, whose glass roofs can cause strong reflections in low sunlight. Extra attention is therefore required during final approach.
