Cabo Frio International Airport (IATA:CFB - ICAO:SBCB) is an international airport in the municipality of Cabo Frio, in Rio de Janeiro. It serves Cabo Frio and other cities in the Lagos Region in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is a logistical "hub" for cargo destined for the oil industry, including platforms in the Campos and Santos Basins, as well as for Logistics Centers in the State of Rio de Janeiro and nearby areas.
It was built by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the Air Force Command, through the Federal Airport Assistance Program - PROFAA. Inaugurated in December 1998, it is the largest airport in the interior of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The Campos Basin is a Brazilian sedimentary basin located on the north coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, extending to the south of the state of Espírito Santo, between parallels 21 and 23 south. It has approximately 115,800.00 square kilometers. Its limit, to the south, with the Santos Basin is in Alto de Cabo Frio; to the north, with the Espírito Santo Basin, it occurs in Alto de Vitória. Its name derives from the name of the city of Campos dos Goytacazes[1], following the guidelines of the International Stratigraphic Nomenclature Code, which guides that geological sites - in this case a sedimentary basin - are named after geological accidents or nearby cities. The main exploration and production activities are carried out in the city of Macaé, where the Petrobras base is located on Imbetiba beach, in addition to the municipalities of Campos dos Goytacazes, São João da Barra, Quissamã, Carapebus and the southern region of the State of Espírito Santo Holy.
