Campos dos Goytacazes Airport or Bartolomeu Lysandro Airport or Bartolomeu Lisandro Airport (IATA: CAW, ICAO: SBCP) is located in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, in the northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
It was inaugurated on October 19, 1952, in an area acquired by the city hall, and idealized by the then federal deputy Bartolomeu Lysandro de Albernaz, who was also a sugar mill owner. Before, the landing of aircraft in the city was done in terrains of difficult access. In 1987, Infraero took over the administration of the airport by determination of the Ministry of Aeronautics.
Today, the outstanding feature of Bartolomeu Lysandro Airport is the great potential for these offshore operations, as the advent of oil exploration in the pre-salt layer has attracted investors from various regions of the country and abroad, with this there is a tendency to attract also other scheduled airlines.
Due to the intense movement at the airport, Infraero has taken measures to improve the airport unit. The revitalization of the landing and take-off runway and the installation of the patio lighting towers have been completed. Work was carried out to adapt the passenger terminal to receive the ATR 72-500 regular flight aircraft (aircraft with capacity for up to 72 passengers), with the acquisition of an x-ray scanner with a metal detector gantry and accessories for the inspection channel , as well as adequacy of staff to compose the inspection channel for passengers and hand luggage.
In an agreement signed on October 11, 2013, through ordinances 189 and 152 of the Civil Aviation Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the administration of Bartolomeu Lysandro Airport was delegated to the Municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes for 35 years.
In 2014, Infraero carried out macrotexture and painting works for the horizontal signaling and installation of new lighting towers in the aircraft parking lot.
Infraero continues to manage the airport with the objective of promoting its transition to the Municipality of Campos which, as of October 1, 2015, will definitely assume the management of the site.
