Santo Ângelo - Sepé Tiaraju Airport (IATA: GEL, ICAO: SBNM) is a regional airport in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is located on the Comandante Egydio Pedro Flach Highway (section of the highway (ERS-218) that accesses the airport), 13 km from the city center. It has a paved and signalized runway 1,625 m long. Its geographic coordinates are as follows: 28°1651" south latitude and 54°10'16" west longitude. Until December 2006, the operating airline was OceanAir. After a period without commercial flights, NHT Linhas Aéreas (currently called Brava Linhas Aéreas) started operating on January 22, 2007. Next to the airport are the facilities of the Aeroclube de Santo Ângelo, the pioneer aviation school in the interior of the state. On June 14, 2013 the airport was interdicted for commercial flights to start a renovation of the runway, lighting and for the fencing of the place, the work was delayed a little due to new investments that were placed in the contract at the last minute, the work officially began on June 17, 2013 and was scheduled to be completed on August 31 of the same year, However, other investments are in progress until February 2014. The airport is only open for landings and takeoffs of training planes of the aeroclub that is installed in the same place. With the expansion of the runway, the airport will be able to receive planes of up to 120 passengers, the total cost of the work was more than 5 million reais. The main objective of the airport renovation is to include new daily flights to São Paulo and other regions of Brazil to boost the economy and tourism of the place, it is even considered to receive international flights.
The work at the airport suffered another delay because the asphalt plant closed, the company responsible for the renovation of the airport runway had to look for another one, the works were then postponed until mid-February 2014 The renovation ended in mid-May 2016, and was inaugurated afterwards. The work cost just over 5 million reais and had resources from PROFAA (Federal Program for Aid to Airports of the Civil Aviation Secretariat). On July 1, 2022, ANAC's ordinance was published authorizing the operation of Boeing 737-800 at the Sepé Tiarajú Regional Airport.
