Chapecó - Serafim Enoss Bertaso Airport (IATA: XAP, ICAO: SBCH) is a regional airport in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. It is an important air traffic center in the interior of the country, as it meets the demand of the entire West of Santa Catarina.
Located nine kilometers from the city center, it is the fourth airport in movement in the state, with 454,415 passengers transported in 2019, behind Florianópolis International Airport, Navegantes International Airport and Joinville Airport.
It has the capacity to operate with aircraft of up to 186 passengers.
It operates with the airlines Azul Linhas Aéreas, Gol Linhas Aéreas and LATAM Airlines Brazil.
The first airport in the municipality was built in 1948, in the São Cristóvão neighborhood, being called Paulo Marques Airport, with a simple structure, dirt runway and only one hangar. It basically operated Douglas DC-3 aircraft, being served by Varig, Cruzeiro do Sul and Sadia, which later became Transbrasil. Due to the reduced space, its operations were limited. To solve this problem, the new and current airport was built, south of Chapecó, inaugurated on March 18, 1978, with expanded capacity for regular flights.
Located nine kilometers from the central area of Chapecó, it has night operation and procedures for instrument landing consisting of VOR/DME and NDB radio, PAPI system for approach procedures and a fire station.
Its runway has an approved length of 2,063 meters and a width of 45 meters.
Its passenger terminal is air-conditioned and measures 2,400 m². It has hangars for executive aviation and air taxi. It is the headquarters of the Aeroclube de Chapecó, which maintains a school focused on civil aviation.
