Munds Park Airstrip ICAO MP1
Munds Park Arizona
By Lionheart Creations
Munds Park Airstrip (MP1) is a small fictional, dirt airstrip located in Northern Arizona just NorthEast of Sedona. It is at high altitude, 6500 feet and has a dirt runway of 1400 feet, making it a challenging airstrip to take off from, especially with larger General Aviation planes that might be heavy laden. You will need a plane that can do STOL short field take-offs and landings to be able to use this airfield. It is DIFFICULT. One of the main things to look out for when using this airfield the first time is to adjust your Mixture for high altitude; perhaps 55% to 65% setting for maximum power on take-offs and also use the South bound direction for the lowest obstacle clearance, as the North bound route has a higher treeline and is uphill, while the Southbound route is downhill.
This airfield is equipped with a camping area for mobile homes, motor homes, and tents. There is a nice cafe', Ernie's. They are famous for their $100.00 hamburgers. At the main terminal building at the entrance to the airport is your travel and local information pamphlets for those of you that enjoy seeing the sights. You are on the North outskirts of Munds Park and they have a fantastic golf course if you love some golf. They also have a nice little hotel for staying the weekend if you want a nice shower and bed.
If you are flying big planes, you may not wish to have this airfield in your collection as it is very short and at high altitude. If your plane is setup with a lite loadout, low fuel, like perhaps 1/4 tanks, you might be ok. If you can take off in 1400 feet at Flagstaff airport, then you can do that here also, but note... It is short!!
Airfield material: Dirt Length: 1400 feet Altitude: 6500 feet ICAO= MP1 (Munds Park One) Tower and traffic services Ground services but no fuel truck Small and medium ramp parking Hotel in town and campgrounds
Please note. This airfield is a challenge to take off from.
This package uses Asobo / Microsoft stock scenery packages for a lot of its buildings and details, trees, etc. You will need the following installed for them to show: LFLJ, Courchevel: asobo-airport-lflj-courchevel NZWR, Whangarei, NZWR: microsoft-airport-nzwr-whangarei RENO, PACKAGE: asobo-modellib-airrace-reno NZMF, Milford Sound: microsoft-airport-nzmf-milfordsound KFHR, Friday Harbor: microsoft-airport-kfhr-friday-harbor EGZM, Aboyne: microsoft-airport-egzm-aboyne Airport Glider: microsoft-modellib-airport-glider Bell 407
Note: I had always wondered what it would be like to have an airport in Munds Park. This is one location I had in mind for such an airfield, but the location is tight, very short runway. My other location is across the freeway. A second 'Munds Park' airport. This one is called 'Airstrip', ICAO= MP1 or Munds Park #1. The one this does not include, that is across the freeway is Munds Park 'Airport', ICAO= MP2 or Munds Park #2. That one is a Medium size airfield with lots of parking, much larger runway, nicer services, and a glider park and outdoors air museum.
I hope you enjoy it.
