Guadalajara International Airport (MMGL) was built in 1966 and is located 17 kilometers south of Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It is the third busiest airport in Mexico, only after Mexico City and Cancun. In terms of cargo flights Guadalajara is the second busiest airport in Mexico. It has two runways and one main terminal, serving domestic and international flights. Guadalajara International Airport is also named "Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla" in honor of Mexico's Independence hero.
