Situated next to the N7 highway just outside Cape Town is Morningstar Airport, some 21 kilometres (13 miles) north of Cape Town City Centre.

Formally known as the Western Cape Microlight Club, Morningstar Airport was founded 24 years ago as an airport for Microlight Aircraft. The Microlight Flying Club still is a non-profit company that leases land from the City of Cape Town. The club members have fully funded all development at the airport through subscriptions, donations, and levies.

Since the early days of catering for Microlight aircraft only, the club has grown substantially and the microlight aircraft have now been replaced by light sport aircraft, non-type certified aircraft, gyrocopters, and high-performance aerobatic aircraft. Today, Morningstar airport is home to over 220 different types of aircraft.
